Historical opportunity directed towards a fortunate path: Is now the time for a real Central European cooperation?
This essay argues that at the beginning of the 21st century, Central Europe faces a historic opportunity to move beyond the confines of the dependent market economy model and lay the foundations for a renewed regional cooperation. The authors contend that only through a coordinated industrial policy can the countries of the region achieve economic convergence, geopolitical strengthening, and greater strategic resilience within the European Union. The study outlines the potential of regional industrial policy cooperation along three key pillars: infrastructure, investment, and industrial upgrading. It emphasizes that the region’s internal divisions can only be overcome through a deeply embedded, institutionalized partnership. With this essay, the authors aim to launch a broader regional dialogue on the future of cooperation in Central Europe.

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner Sentenced to Arrest: Argentina Deeply Divided
Argentina is once again shaken by a major political and judicial development. On Tuesday, June 10, the country’s justice system confirmed a six-year prison sentence for the ex President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, along with a “lifetime ban from holding public office”. The conviction stems from the “Vialidad” case, where she was found guilty of fraudulent administration that harmed the state by directing public funds toward road works in Santa Cruz Province during her presidencies (2007-2011 and 2011-2015).

Jelenleg a világ két nagy erőközponttal rendelkezik. Döntő kérdés, hogy Oroszország melyikhez csatlakozik. Ez a német-orosz kapcsolatokat akadályozó Brzezinski doktrína változtatására kényszerít. Európa – túl politikai széttagoltságán – nem tud egy egységes harmadik erőközpont szerepében fellépni, mert két irányú függőségben szenved döntően a reál-gazdaságában: technológiailag az USA-tól, technikai és ritkafém-import terén Kínától.

Párizs viszonylagos. Olyannyira viszonylagos, hogy nem is tudom, miként tudnék leírást adni róla anélkül, hogy valami máshoz hasonlítanám. Rómát egyszer úgy próbáltam elmagyarázni, mint a várost, ahol a tér dominálja az időt, ahol az elmúlás térben történik semmint időben. Ahogy visszaemlékszem a Rómában töltött 6 hónapomra, pontosan érzem a bőrömön, mit próbáltam kifejezni ezzel a képpel, de azt is érzem, hogy valamelyest kudarcot vallottam abban, hogy szavakká formáljam ezt az érzést. Most, a Párizsban töltött hatodik hónapomban a város viszonylagosságában elmerülve talán sikerült a megtalálnom a megfelelő szavakat Róma vonatkozásában.

Review of Economic Theory and Policy (RETP) requested an interview with Professor Dr. Andreas Nölke on the following topics: the current global change of the world economy, the future of the global financial order, China-EU relations, prospects of the German economy and the changes in the dependent market economies of the Visegrad 4. Andreas Nölke is a Professor of Political Science specialising in International Relations and International Political Economy at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2007. He is also a Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE. Professor Nölke holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration (1988) and a PhD in Political Science (1993, with distinction) from the University of Konstanz. He has held teaching positions at the Universities of Konstanz, Leipzig, Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit), and Utrecht. Professor Nölke’s research focuses on comparative and international political economy, particularly the political economy of emerging markets, financialisation, European economic integration, and populism. He is well-known for his influential work on dependent market economies and state-permeated capitalism, and his publications appear in leading journals such as the Review of International Political Economy, World Politics, and Socio-Economic Review. Beyond academia, Professor Nölke has held consultancy roles for prominent organisations, including the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ), the European Commission, and the World Bank. Professor Nölke’s academic contributions extend to serving as an associate editor for prominent outlets such as Routledge Studies in Globalisation and the Journal of Economic Policy Reform
